A 62 year old patient
with Type 2 diabetes for 2 decades and renal disease has an
ankle systolic pressure of 200 mmHg and a brachial systolic
pressure of 145 mmHg which produces a spurious ABI of 1.37.
This falsely elevated ABI is likely due to:
- Blood pressure cuff being too large or too small
- Not having determined the diastolic pressure
- Arterial calcification that decreases compressibility
of the arteries.
- Previous history of thrombophlebitis
